Tahini Dressing Two Ways

The possibilities are endless.

Two classic varieties of tahini dressing: one is inspired by Asian flavors (sesame, garlic, rice vinegar, and ginger), and the other is made with lemon and garlic. Try the thicker sesame tahini sauce over brown rice, and the thinner lemon tahini dressing over salads.

Sesame Tahini Dressing

A slightly sweet, salty dressing that’s perfect over warm grains.

Makes: makes 1 ¼ cups
Prep time: 15 min

Ingredients

½ cup tahini
½ cup water
2 tablespoons sesame oil
2 tablespoons tamari (or soy sauce)
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
1 tablespoon maple syrup
1 clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon ginger, minced

Directions

Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth. Add more water to thin the dressing if you prefer a thinner texture. It will thicken in the fridge, so you can also add water to thin as needed. Dressing will keep for 5 to 6 days, refrigerated.

Lemon Tahini Dressing

Author Notes: This dressing is perfect for fresh salads. If you like, add less water to make it more of a sauce.

Makes: 1 1/3 cups
Cook time: 5 min

½ cup tahini
⅔ to ¾ cups water (as needed)
3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tablespoon olive oil
¾ teaspoon sea salt (or to taste)
Black pepper, to taste

Directions

  1. Whisk or blend all ingredients together, starting with ⅔ cup water and adding more until you reach a desired consistency. Dressing will keep for 5 to 6 days in the refrigerator.
